Workshop “Social and Political Marginality of the Experience of the Other: The Case of Gay Literature and Gay Activism”

The Department of Social Sciences of the European Humanities University (EHU), in cooperation with the EHU Center for Gender Studies and with the support of The Barys Zvozskau Belarusian Human Rights House, invites to the workshop, literary readings and discussions within the framework of the project “Social and political marginality of the experience of others: the case of gay literature and gay activism.

What are the possible social and political reasons for the marginality of homosexuality in Belarus, Lithuania and other countries like Estonia and Portugal? Through the prism of literature and active literary strategies directed at the de-marginalization and de-stereotypization of homosexuality the participants of our discussion will talk about related problems and the possible ways for de-stereotypization of LGBT community in their countries

April 12, 13:00-14:30 — meeting with the participants of the project, poets and writers, who will share their experience of writing and translating (EHU Campus, Valakupių g. 5-302).

April 13, 19:00-20:30 — literary readings and the discussion “The identity of the author. Gay literature in various genres and contexts” (Human Rights House in Vilnius, Latako g. 3).
