The challenges in heritage sector in Belarus and Eastern Europe are rooted in post-Soviet transformations and recent geopolitical shifts. All these necessitates searches for new senses of work with monuments and cultural landscapes. Based on best European practices, supported by multiple academic studies we already know that new heritage ideas can become a tool for stimulation of socio-economic and cultural development; multidimensional strengthening of local communities and intensification of international and cross-border cooperation. The key questions are how new higher education programs should look in such new circumstances, and how they can resist to an overall crisis in humanities education.

The mission of the University is to prepare professionals which are able to identify problems and set adequate goals for heritage sector, implement projects and programs of different scales and take responsible research-based decisions. Furthermore, EHU has a unique ability to become one of the regional centers of Heritage studies and offer relevant thematic education. Intensive communication and international academic support are aimed to support the realization of this idea. During the meeting the presentations on foreign contemporary educational heritage programs will be held and discussed.

An overall goals of the event:

  • To examine the most advanced heritage academic programs in particular European universities;
  • To determine new directions for development of EHU’s MA and BA heritage curriculum, including identification of possibilities to create joint undergraduate and graduate programs;
  • To strengthen the University’s ties with regional stakeholders and social partners of heritage education in Belarus.
